The camera was hacked? What should I do to avoid being broadcast live?

2022-11-09

Nowadays, people are becoming more and more aware of security precautions. Many people install cameras in their homes to see what is going on at all times, which can prevent burglars when no one is there or to take care of family members such as the elderly.

However, with the popularity of cameras, more and more people are becoming more worried about their privacy issues. They will worry about accidents without evidences to check. If they install cameras, they will worry about being hacked.

Firstly, there are two types of the camera monitoring on the market. One is local monitoring, does not need to connect to any network. It contains a camera, a video recorder and a local hard disk. This type of monitoring is relatively safe, because as long as the network is not connected, there is no remote intrusion.

The second type is wireless surveillance, which is usually installed in a home or business and can be viewed at any time on a mobile phone or computer over a wireless network.

And this second situation, it is easy to reveal personal privacy. Generally home cameras must be shared with the home wireless network. Once someone knows the wireless password, it may invade your camera to check the surveillance.

Although wireless password cracking may have a certain threshold for ordinary people, it is a piece of cake for hackers. Once the wireless password is cracked, they can get the IP address or hard disk recorder. If the camera password is too simple or you are using the default password, that would be a nonentity to the bad guys.

Some people even make home camera-cracking software to sell for profit. This cracking software will crack the network IP of your home route, then invade the network, and finally control the camera to shoot, take pictures, and other behaviors.

Hackers can directly invade the database of the camera manufacturer by looking for vulnerabilities in the manufacturer's program if the surveillance video on the camera you use is stored in the cloud, they can even invade the relevant information about the camera users of that manufacturer. At this time, it will lead to large-scale privacy leakage.

In short, as long as the products are connected to the Internet, there are risks of intrusion, so how to avoid these risks?

First, try to choose a local storage camera that is not connected to the Internet, which can greatly reduce the risk of privacy leakage. Second really if to save trouble and choose the Internet camera, then in the installation of the camera should also try to choose a product security qualification, with the encryption function of the equipment, it is best to have the function of double authentication.

In other words, password authentication and a mobile phone verification code are required when logging in to the device. Do not set the password too simply when setting the password. It is better to change the password regularly.

Another is to avoid installing cameras in private areas such as bedrooms or bathrooms and to avoid doing strange things in places where cameras can monitor. Why cameras are hacked is mainly because of someone's mental distortion, and if they find that the content is plain, you are less likely to be attacked later. Otherwise, even if you change your password, you will arouse others ‘incentive to continue hacking.
